About Us
The Foundation for the Protection of Animal Welfare (FPAW) is a Sierra Leonean non-profit founded by passionate young citizens dedicated to promoting the welfare of domestic animals, advancing wildlife conservation, and protecting the natural environment. FPAW believes animal welfare, biodiversity and environmental stewardship are deeply interconnected and essential to community wellbeing.
Legal Status & Operations
FPAW is officially registered with the Western Rural District Council and the Tonkolili District Council. The organization operates in the Northern Region and the Western Rural District of Sierra Leone.

Our Mandate
FPAW was founded to advance the welfare of domestic animals and wildlife while promoting environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods. We achieve this through community engagement, public education, advocacy, and direct action that protect animals and restore ecosystems across Sierra Leone.
Operational Sectors
Environment & Climate Change
- Advocate for environmental protection and climate change mitigation.
- Promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management.
- Mobilize communities on land degradation and restoration.
- Develop livelihoods that reduce environmental pressure.
Social Protection
- Engage local councils, chiefdom authorities, line ministries and donors to strengthen legal and social protection for animals and wildlife.
- Run awareness campaigns on humane treatment and responsible ownership.
Emergency Response
- Train rescue volunteers in disaster-prone areas within our project domain.
- Implement contingency measures to rescue and care for animals when disasters occur.
